Lumpy Skin Disease

چکیده
Lumpy skin disease (LSD, knopvelsiekte) is a pox disease of cattle characterised by fever, nodules 4 on the skin, mucous membranes and internal organs, emaciation, enlarged lymph nodes, oedema 5 of the skin, and sometimes death. The disease is of economic importance because it causes 6 reduced production, particularly in dairy herds. It also causes damage to the hide. LSD is caused by 7 strains of capripoxvirus that are antigenically indistinguishable from strains causing sheep pox and 8 goat pox. However, LSD has a partially different geographical distribution from sheep and goat pox, 9 suggesting that cattle strains of capripoxvirus do not infect and transmit between sheep and goats. 10 Transmission of LSD virus is thought to be predominantly by insects, natural contact transmission in 11 the absence of insect vectors being inefficient. Lumpy skin disease occurs in most African countries. 12 The most recent outbreaks outside Africa occurred in the Middle East in 2006 and 2007 and in 13 Mauritius in 2008.[Until 1988 LSD was confined to sub-Saharan Africa, but then spread into Egypt. There 14 have been only two laboratory-confirmed outbreaks of LSD outside Africa: in Israel in 1989, which was 15 eliminated by slaughter of all infected and in-contact cattle, and vaccination, and in Reunion in 1993. An 16 outbreak was reported in Bahrain in 1993 but was not confirmed by virus isolation. There was an outbreak in 17 2000 in cattle imported into Mauritius; the diagnosis was confirmed by electron microscopy.] 18

Clinical, hematologic, and biochemical findings in cattle infected with lumpy skin disease during an outbreak in southwest Iran
This study was performed to determine the clinical, hematologic, and biochemical findings in animals affected with lumpy skin disease (LSD) in southwest Iran. Sixty cattle with LSD were included in this study and compared with 20 healthy ones as the control group. The disease was diagnosed based on clinical examination and confirmed by polymerase chain reaction analysis of the blood samples. Th...
متن کاملEvaluation of Humoral and Cell-mediated Immunity of Two Capripoxvirus Vaccine Strains against Lumpy Skin Disease Virus
Background and Aims: Prevention of Lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle is heavily dependent on vaccination. Since the genetic structure of LSD virus has the close relatedness with other Capri-pox virus (CaPV). Therefore, the use of vaccine strains of CaPV derived from sheep and goat would be useful to protect cattle against LSD. Materials and Methods: The susceptible calves of dairy farms were ...

متن کاملComplete Genome Sequence of Lumpy Skin Disease Virus Isolate SERBIA/Bujanovac/2016, Detected during an Outbreak in the Balkan Area
The lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) isolate SERBIA/Bujanovac/2016 consists of 150,661 nucleotides and has a 99.95% nucleotide identity with the Neethling Warmbaths LW strain isolated in South Africa in 1999. This is the first complete LSDV genome determined in Serbia and also in the Balkan area.
متن کاملReview: lumpy skin disease: an emerging threat to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is an economically devastating emerging viral disease of cattle. Lumpy skin disease is currently endemic in most African countries and has recently spread out of Africa into the Middle East region. In this article, we review the putative mechanisms of spread of LSD into the Middle East and the risks of further spread into Turkey, Europe and Asia. We also review the late...
متن کاملAlternative cell lines for the propagation of lumpy skin disease virus.
In our Institute lumpy skin disease virus is grown on primary lamb testis cells for isolation, identification and vaccine production. However, the availability of lambs in Kenya has been seriously reduced over the past few years. This has led to an increase in the cost of using primary lamb testis cells. This study was undertaken to investigate other primary cell lines, which are easily availab...
